Inherit the wind
"He who hath trouble in his house, shall inherit the wind, and the fools succumb to wise......"
Just saw the movie, I can never resist a movie with Spencer Tracy in it, and it is a grand one. so what would it be, Evolutiuon, or the seven days of the creation. It is so hard to deny the evolution theory, it sounds right, and by now even proven right, so what one to do with the religion. Believing in God, and all the prophets, the holly wars, the crusades, Adam and Eve, and above all, the believers.
What is one to do.
Believing in God has been such a cornerstone of my beliefs. Believing in GOOD, and Bad. But as Fereydoon had said in his rant, as I am getting older the doubts do come through, bit by bit they sip in, and corrupt the serenity of my acceptance. You know, it is the quality of the life I live believing in God, it is the trust and the submission, leaning in faith and paying forward toward its mercy. There is a certain security in it. The other day I had a client and he told me he is an athiest. I told him he is a brave man, heck I am not that brave, that confident, but I am sure if I was brought up in a different society, and different morality was installed within me, it would have been different. The thing is tghat as I am gettinbg older, I find more reasons to believe in god, and more reasons for believing in evolution. So let us put is this way.
First there was God and nothing else, he set up the rules, the laws of beings, what holds, and moves everything toward its being and begining, and then he just took a seat and watched. No Adam, or Eve,
no those are stories that made sense within the knowledge and sofistications of their time, how would you explain evolution to people who are illetarate. I mean if we had recieved our prophits in the middle of twentirth century, they could not sell us on Adam and Eve. The problem is the sequences of the time, and a bit of shuffle might had made things easier. all and all you believe in God with your heart, and accept science with your head, one factual and one abstract, you figure it your own way.
Well good news to my hemosexuall friends, our lesbians, Bi sexualls, and Bi curious ones. The scientists in London have found a way to prove that hemosexuality is by nuture and not nurture, the culprit is a gene that upon injecting it to a female fruit fly had made her to walk around in soft shoes and going for Conchita rather than Manuel.
I should say though that does not justify our Bi sexuall friends since they are getting it both ways!, nature, and nurtue. so live and let live, it is their nature they are at no fault, they are just drawn that way.
Next week, our funny politicians would be back in the congress, to fight a bit more over the other judges, and of course the beloved Mr, Bolton. I do think that we need a person of Mr, Bolton's carachter and sensibilities in the UN, since the corruption and the helplesness of the culture in that organisation had made it even weeker, and less necassary than eve. I also think Mr Jackson should be left alone, and if any parents allow their kids to be toyed by him, they should be charged with greed, and dangering a minor. The housing market is still running hot hot hot,so please no forecast of its demise from the ones seate3d on the sides. There is lots of money in the economy, and as long as the interest rates are as low, that market will be sizzling.I still think the sex offenders and the child molesters should be casterated upon their first offence, or sentenced to life in prison with no paroll, we are paying a high price for our leaniance toward them. and lets for God sake not celebrate victumhood, and the latest addicted celebrities who suddenly have found the truth and are trying to go cold turkey.
Remember we reap what we sow, so lets be careful out there. LIFE IS GOOD

Evolution is NOT A NEGATION OF THE exsistence of a "God". It is only a renouncement of the literal interpretation of the story of creationism.
But it, like all scriptures, was not intended to explain reality as it IS , but to give an unconfinable cosmic reality meaninng which transcends both time and space.
So one can believe in evolution, as I do, and still maintain that there is a "God". And the decision to believe in both should only be interpreted as an act of RESISTANCE against a conception of a limited God who is bound by the same exegencies that WE are-- mainly time and space.
To be an atheist does not require courage since it is only a concession to AN understanding of life as fatalistically confined by both --time and space.
We NEED atheists, because it is that mind set that has DONE in actuality, WHAT BELIEVERS HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO DO mythologically, WHICH IS, allow us to transcend both, time and space.
Notice how it is THEY (the so called unbelievers) who have successfully fashioned much of the technology which has allowed us to do in reality here (on the net for example) , what we believers have long abandoned to be the exclusive domain of a supernatural creator, which is again-- to transcend TIME AND SPACE.

Yes, Yes, and yes, I do agree, we can believe in God and evolution both. The religions have had their own interpertation of the story of creation, based on the knowlede and the capasity of the understanding in their time. Religions can and are faulty, but we can never ignore the existance of God, as Marjan say; GOD is hope.

Creation requires a beginning and an end, a "time" and a "space". me thinks, there is no beginning and there is no end. God did not create anything, but God is everything.
God did not create IT, God IS 'IT'.
Adam and eve were creation of men, just as religions were/are.
But rest assured: where there is love, there is God.

I think it is quite possible to believe in God and evolution at the same time. I think it is even possible to follow certain religions and hold on to the theory of evolution, the big bang theory, black holes and other matters of scientific origin (yeah, I know some people would never agree).
I see what you mean when you say that an athiest is brave in that he/she does not rely on a supreme power for support, security and comfort if something goes wrong. There are no miracles, just pure conincidences.
However, I really don't think it takes courage to be an athiest, it is just looking at life from a different prespective. Some people argue (Christians and Muslims), that if you are an athiest what would you have to look forward to after you die? The athiest would argue, why look forward to anything, when you can enjoy it now...
I also believe God is Hope.
As I have become older, I too believe more in God.

I always hear the alarm bells go off in my head when I hear the words God/Creation and evolution brought up together. The contrast and underlying tension that the pairing of these words seem to bring forth, with ultimately the question and need to choose one side or the other (so far we all seem to make room for both). For me (noting that you all have not suggested otherwise) evolution is a matter of science, not faith. It is not about "picking it over" or giving it a vote of confidence, no more than we vote (though we may like) for calculus or chemistry.
In a way I'm more concerned for Creation. To me it seems a shame to try to shoehorn the Creation story into a quasi-scientific mold, or to think of it as if it were science fact codified into simpler words. I think that is where the hanging on every word in a literal sense, trying to find that one-to-one correspondence with the world around us diminishes and takes away from the faith. Rather than delving into the message within the framework of the Creation story, and the magic of it, its ability to so simply capture our attention, convey the essence of our fall from grace, our struggles and path to salvation. To me that is the wonder. To see that God has many mysteries and does not have to explain it all. God, who no doubt can brag about much, is a good marketing person - knows how to keep 'em focused on the message. I like "God is hope", short and sweet, well said Marjan.
This is an area of concern for me - it has been for maybe the last fifteen years - this grappling for owning/teaching the Creation story - the right one. Ultimately, having one sanctioned Creation story (intelligent design or otherwise) will come to the exclusion of all the other wonderful creation stories.
I do have my bias, and while I like to think that I am open and respect the Gods of many faiths, I should accept that my perspective about the nature of faith is not really a qualified one. So, even though I don't believe in God (and I certainly do not feel braver for it) I like good stories, and there are many of them, thank God!
